The key to staying motivated is finding something you enjoy, which is why we offer a huge range of classes for all ages and fitness levels at The Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre.
We hold over 100 classes every week in our Group Fitness rooms and 10 classes in our Cycle Studio. Most classes run from 55-60 minutes, while express classes run for 30 or 45 minutes. Classes designed for older adults looking to work on basic strength, fitness and balance. This class is a friendly and safe environment for older adults.
A combination of Pilates, Yoga and Ballet movements, focusing on core strength and stability. Exercises are paired with stretches between sets to elongate muscles and release stress and tension.
Barbell workout for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit. Using weights with lots of repetition, it challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best strength training exercises matched with great music.
A pre-choreographed step class featuring simple and easy to follow movement sequences on and around an adjustable step platform. Challenging and enjoyable for the beginner to experienced exerciser.
A indoor cycle journey, choreographed to inspirational music and coached by an instructor who will guide you through a series of sprints, climbs & attacks. Riders can work at their own pace or keep up with the pack.
A combination of a circuit utilising a range of equipment and movements to challenge and strengthen every part of your body as well as a cycle workout that will build endurance and provides great cardiovascular training
Freestyle Step is a high-intensity, fun and motivating class set to upbeat music using a mixture of free weights and steps. Focuses on achieving fitness goals and cardiovascular endurance.
An intense high-energy workout combining resistance and body weight movements, this class will test your fitness and heart rate. Using interval training as a foundation, it involves periods of working hard and then recovering in rest period, ready for another round!
Metcon involves a combination of functional strength training and high intensity interval training – creating the ultimate whole body workout.
Focuses on strengthening and stabilising the muscles around the core and hip regions. This promotes correct posture, spinal alignment, and overall stronger functional bodies.
Combining weight training and metabolic conditioning to improve your strength and enhance your performance - teaching you how to move more efficiently and perform better both in training and everyday life. Classes will include mobility, strength and a metabolic conditioning workout to help build and maintain lean muscle, and increase strength, metabolism and overall fitness levels.
Catering for over 50’s, Strength & Balance is designed as a low impact class to increase and maintain your strength, flexibility, balance & coordination. Classes will include mobility, strength & and aerobic training targeted to improve your overall fitness levels.
Freestyle stationary cycle workout will build endurance and provides great cardiovascular training. We have fun group classes led by our expert fitness instructors and exhilarating virtual classes available for your convenience.
Move mindfully and deliberately into different poses that work your strength and flexibility. Combined with focusing on relaxation and mindfulness at the same time, you will leave feeling refreshed, strong and free in body and mind.
Dynamic Yoga is a challenging workout which will increase strength, muscle tone, energy and flexibility through dynamic movements. This class will assist you to improve body awareness and help you to build natural strength while reducing stress and tension, leaving you feeling invigorated.
Hatha yoga focuses on improving mobility, breathing, balance, strength and stamina through strengthening and stretching postures. The practice is paired with a breathing and concentration exercises, leading to relaxation of the mind and body.
Yin yoga holds poses and applies moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body, the tendons, fascia, and ligaments with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Suitable for all levels and ages.
Water workout classes
A whole body gentle conditioning workout to improve overall strength, particularly the core muscles. Aquacise is a water based class that is suitable for all levels. Due to the in-water nature of the class, this class reduces bodyweight and allows participants to complete movements in water that they wouldn’t necessarily be able to do on land.
A high intense class in the water designed to push you to improve your overall fitness and endurance.
- Be early, late entry is not permitted
- Be prepared with your workout gear, towel and water bottle
- Be respectful and supportive of your fellow participants and our talented instructors
- Be upfront with your instructor about any physical limitations or injuries you may have, especially if you're pregnant
- Let the instructor know if it’s your first time in a fitness class
- The minimum age to attend group fitness is 13 years
- The minimum age to attend Adrenaline HIT is 18 years
- If you need to leave early, do so in a way that won’t impact others or the flow of the class
- Put equipment away after the class

- Bookings open seven days in advance unless restrictions do not permit this
- Bookings close five minutes after the start time
