Swimming Lessons in 2021!

Along with offering a book and pay as you go casual timetable throughout January, we are excited to be restarting our regular ongoing Swimming Lessons program from 18th January, 2021!

Please visit the Swimming Lessons page for all of the information on both of these programs.

Updated: 21.12.2020

We’re excited to announce that bookings will no longer be required for the following services from Tuesday 22 December 2020:

  • Aquatics (e.g. lap swimming and recreational)
  • Gym
  • Stadium

Removing the need to book will also mean that allocated session times for the above services will be removed. You can now access these services at any time, subject to our opening hours and availability.

Please note that due to ongoing capacity restrictions, bookings will still be required for group fitness classes. We will now be opening up bookings for group fitness classes 7-days in advance to assist with planning your weekly schedule.

Although bookings are no longer required for the services listed above, capacity limits are still in place throughout the centre and these will be closely monitored by our staff.

For those members who have reactivated their membership you will now be required to scan your membership card when you enter the facility using either the turnstiles, access doors or with our staff at reception. If you have lost or misplaced your card our customer service team can assist with issuing you with a new card.

We are expanding our services!

We are very excited to announce that our centre will be expanding our services on Monday 9 November subject to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews confirmation of further easing of restrictions on Sunday 8 November.

To ensure our staff and the community are kept safe, we are planning a staged approach to reopening our centre and services.

While some of your favourite classes, instructors and times may not be available immediately, we’re excited to welcome you back as we move forward together.

Below are the services that will be available:

Below are our operating hours:

  • Monday – Friday 6am to 10pm
  • Saturday 8am – 8pm
  • Sunday 8am – 8pm

To ensure your safety and the safety of our staff, we have implemented a number of changes to make your return to our centre as smooth as possible. Please read the below safety measures prior to attending our centre.

Contact tracing at our centre

To ensure we are complying with the government’s contact tracing legislation, we’re implementing a new process whereby all responsible parents/guardians of swimming lesson and gymnastics members will be required to present their pre-registered QR code every time their child attends a lesson. It is important that if a child attends the facility for lessons with multiple parents/guardians, or if this changes from week to week, that all responsible parents/guardians register for their own individual QR code.

How to register and receive your QR code:

  1. Click here to fill out the visitor registration form.
  2. Include any additional visitors, such as minors who are attending the centre with you. Minors who attend the centre alone (in line with centre conditions of entry) will need to fill out a separate visitor registration form.
  3. Ensure all your details are correct – particularly your email address.
  4. Check the confirmation box at the end of the form and select the ‘next’ button.
  5. Please present your QR code each time you visit the centre.

Today’s announcement from Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed the long-awaited changes to bring Victoria out of lockdown.

While these changes are indeed exciting, we are currently working through the impacts for our site and service offerings, which may take some time. We are working as quickly as possible and will provide additional updates as soon as more information is available.

We are as excited as you are and can’t wait to see you again!

  • COVID-safe training for our staff

All staff have completed the Department of Health COVID-safe training, as well as additional training provided by YMCA Victoria to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge to keep you safe. We have also provided additional training for specific roles to ensure all programs operate safely with social distancing requirements in place.

  • Wearing a face mask in centre
The current government restrictions no longer require Victorians to wear a fitted face mask that covers the nose and mouth when they leave their home. To ensure we align to all government requirements, we ask that all visitors and patrons continue to carry a face mask with them at all times when inside our centre. Although face masks are no longer mandatory for members of the public in our facilities - they are recommended by the government where social distancing can not be maintained. This could include while moving about the centre, waiting at the front desk or on pool deck during swimming lessons.

If you are unsure of when you should wear a mask, please ask one of our friendly staff who will be able to provide you with the correct guidance.
  • Booking online

To ensure we are following the government’s health guidelines, there will be a restricted number of people allowed within a space at any given time. So no one misses out, we have set up an online booking system where you can select a session time that suits you and pay immediately to secure your place.

  • Signage and instructions
Once you are inside the centre, you will see signage and instructions on how staff and visitors can be COVID-safe. Hygiene signage and floor, seat and bench stickers will be displayed throughout the facility to help everyone with physical distancing requirements.
  • Temperature scanning

Please make sure you arrive 10 minutes early to your session so you have enough time to sign in and get your temperature checked. All staff and visitors will be scanned upon entry and anyone who displays a temperature of 38°C or above will not be allowed to enter the facility.

  • Social distancing in centre

A safe distance of 1.5 metres between people will be required throughout the centre and programs. All spaces within the centre have been measured and 4 metres squared occupancy restrictions per space will be enforced. Staff and visitors will be counted as they enter and exit spaces, and some seats and equipment have been removed to ensure social distancing is possible.

Please remember that we must all play our part in helping stop the spread of COVID-19. If a visitor does not follow our COVID-safe practices, including social distancing requirements, they may politely be asked to leave the facility by a staff member.

  • Hygiene and cleaning

When you arrive at the facility, the first thing you will notice is hand sanitiser at all entry and exit points, with the expectation that everyone (staff and visitors) sanitise their hands before entering. Hand sanitiser will be available throughout the centre and in bathrooms.

The entire facility will be cleaned every 24 hours and high touch points, such as doors, toilets and gym equipment, will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. Staff will also be wiping down gym equipment regularly and antibacterial wipes will be available for visitors to use before and after using equipment.

  • Our 8-step plan for a confirmed case

Our staff have been trained to ensure that if there is a confirmed case at the centre, they have the tools and resources they need to close down safely. All visitors will have to sign in at reception when they attend their session, which allows us to contact trace those people who were at the centre. There will also be a contamination clean prior to reopening.

Please do not visit the centre if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, tiredness, cold, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath or headache. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please seek medical attention and be checked for COVID-19 at one of the testing stations across the state.

  • What facilities are reopening?

We are very excited to announce the following outdoor pools will reopen for lap swimming:

    • 25 metre pool at Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre
    • 50 metre pool at Boroondara Sports Complex

  • How do I book a swim?

To make sure we adhere to the Victorian Government’s strict social distancing guidelines, there will be a limited number of people allowed in the centre. So we can monitor this, you must have a confirmed booking prior to attending our centre.

You can make bookings 48 hours in advance on our website or by booking over the phone on (03) 9851 0444.

  • Will I be charged my membership again?

Members have the option to pay as you go or if you’re eager to return to your fitness routine, you can now reactivate your membership. We have sent all members an email with a link to reactivate their membership. Alternatively, members can call our customer care team on 1300 760 379.

Due to the current government advice, we expect to operate with reduced services and timetables for the foreseeable future. If you feel these reduced operations effect your fitness routine, you can resuspend your membership at any time.

  • Will YMCA still offer online classes or options?

If you aren’t quite ready to return to our centre yet, you can stay active with Virtual Y – our free online platform that features a live health and wellness timetable.

  • What safety measures will be in place when I return?

Your safety and the safety of our staff remains our number one priority, and we need to ensure that we adhere to the government’s restrictions. It is important that we all work together to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Please visit our website and read about our safety measures prior to booking your session.
